Raja and her husband were traveling by bus towards the Chinese border on Wednesday when the disaster struck.

The couple had embarked on a long-planned spiritual journey to Mount Kailash, a dream Raja had held since her teenage years. Their trip took a terrifying turn when the bus driver and front passengers fled, signaling imminent danger. Raja witnessed a "good 50 to 60 feet high" wall of water mixed with mud bearing down on their vehicle.

Reacting instantly, Raja grabbed her husband by the collar and urged him to run, exclaiming, "Leave the bus right away or we're gonna die." The couple, along with other passengers, fled the bus and scrambled to higher ground at a nearby camp, navigating treacherous, muddy terrain.

As of Friday, the Nepal National Disaster Management Authority and the Chinese government reported 584 fatalities and over 2,400 people missing in the floods. The disaster has devastated the region, prompting extensive search and rescue operations.

From their vantage point on the third level of the camp, Raja and her husband watched in horror as the floodwaters engulfed the area below.
