Romanian prosecutors have indicted controversial social media personality Andrew Tate on charges including trafficking minors, sex with a minor, and money laundering. The indictment, announced Friday by Romania's anti-organised crime agency DIICOT, further escalates legal pressure on Tate and his brother, Tristan.

DIICOT stated that Andrew and Tristan Tate allegedly recruited victims by falsely promising relationships or marriage, then coercing them into producing sexually exploitative content for a webcam business. The agency detailed that one alleged victim, 15 at the time, was seduced by Andrew Tate in Britain in 2012. She was subsequently moved to Bucharest, where she was allegedly subjected to physical violence and psychological intimidation to produce child sexual abuse material for social media.

Prosecutors claim the brothers profited significantly from this exploitation, retaining $1.25 million from the victim's earnings, which represented approximately 80 percent of her income. The indictment also states the brothers attempted to launder these funds by purchasing four luxury vehicles. Tristan Tate is indicted for complicity in the case, with prosecutors alleging he used physical aggression to coerce the victim.

Both Andrew and Tristan Tate have consistently denied all allegations of wrongdoing. Their Romanian lawyer, Eugen Vidineac, stated that the brothers reject the charges and that they will rigorously challenge any deficiencies in the indictment through the judicial process. The legal team intends to scrutinize "every aspect" of the indictment.

The Tate brothers, former kickboxers with dual US and British citizenship, gained a substantial global following, particularly among young men, for their content that often promoted male dominance and criticized gender equality. Their legal troubles intensified in late July when they were arrested in Florida following an extradition request from the United Kingdom, which also sought their extradition on rape charges.

Romanian authorities initiated their investigation into the brothers for potential crimes, including human trafficking, in December 2022. This probe began roughly five years after the pair relocated to Romania. The current indictment in Romania adds to the complex web of legal challenges they face internationally.
