British actor Anthony Head, widely recognized for his iconic roles in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Ted Lasso," has died at the age of 72. Head passed away peacefully surrounded by his family due to complications from pneumonia, as announced by his daughters.

Head achieved international acclaim for his portrayal of Rupert Giles, the Watcher, in the popular supernatural teen drama "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" during the late 1990s. His character became a mentor figure and a fan favorite throughout the series' run.

Beyond "Buffy," Head cultivated a diverse career with memorable performances in numerous television shows. He was known for his recurring role in the British sketch comedy "Little Britain," played King Uther Pendragon in the BBC fantasy drama "Merlin," and portrayed the former football club owner Rupert Mannion in the award-winning Apple TV+ series "Ted Lasso."

His daughters, Emily and Daisy, released a statement expressing their profound sadness, calling him an "extraordinary father." They conveyed that it was an "honor and a privilege" to be his daughters and witness the significant impact he and his work had on many, adding that he deeply loved his profession and considered himself fortunate.

Head's extensive acting credits also include appearances in "Doctor Who," "The Iron Lady," "Persuasion," "The Inbetweeners," and "Manchild." He was a familiar face in British television, also featuring in "Motherland," "Silent Witness," and lending his voice to the long-running BBC Radio 4 drama "The Archers" as Robin Fairbrother.

Before his international television success, Head first gained prominence in the UK in the late 1980s as the face of Nescafé coffee advertisements. Starring alongside Sharon Maughan in the "Gold Blend couple" campaign, their coffee-themed romance ads became a cultural touchstone between 1987 and 1993.

Head's family acknowledged that his legacy will endure, emphasizing their luck in having watched him pursue his passion throughout his career. They noted that he will be dearly missed by his friends, colleagues, and fans.

In December 2025, Head had experienced a personal loss with the death of his long-term partner, animal welfare campaigner Sarah Fisher, at the age of 61. His passing marks the end of a distinguished career that spanned decades and touched audiences across various genres and platforms.
