Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has spoken out for the first time about a child services swatting incident that led to him being temporarily separated from his twin children. In an exclusive interview with Good Morning America, Buttigieg described the event as "one of the most awful moments of my life."

Buttigieg, a prominent figure in the Democratic Party and a potential future presidential candidate, emphasized the need to address the escalating nature of political tactics. He learned the full details of the false allegation approximately 24 hours later, when he was questioned about a location in Alabama he had never visited. An anonymous caller had reportedly told CPS that someone had informed them that Buttigieg had confessed to "unspeakable crimes."

Michigan State Police confirmed the report was false, issuing a statement that such actions endanger public safety by diverting resources from genuine emergencies. The department noted that false reports hinder the ability of law enforcement and CPS to protect vulnerable children and families.

Despite the traumatic experience, Buttigieg indicated his intention to continue his public service work. He stated he remains committed to pursuing causes he believes in, drawing inspiration from the bipartisan support he has received since sharing his experience.
