A delegation of European diplomats, including representatives from Belgium, France, and Poland, along with envoys from the Catholic Church, were attacked by masked Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank. The incident occurred in the largely Christian village of Taybeh, near Ramallah.

The diplomats had gathered to assess the situation on the ground, particularly concerning near-daily attacks by Israeli settlers targeting Palestinians attempting to harvest their olives. Video footage from the scene appeared to show masked settlers confronting the diplomatic convoy, with reports indicating that stones were thrown.

Belgian authorities confirmed that a car belonging to its consulate had a window smashed during the assault. A French mayor traveling with the delegation was also reportedly assaulted. Belgium's foreign minister, Maxime Prevot, strongly condemned the attack, emphasizing that Palestinians face such violence daily and that diplomats and journalists reporting on these issues should not be at risk.

Belgium stated that as the occupying power, Israel has a responsibility to protect Palestinians, ensure the safety of diplomats and journalists, and bring those responsible to justice, calling for an end to impunity for violent settlers. The Belgian minister also indicated that Belgium would continue to advocate for EU sanctions against those involved in and supporting such violence.

Israel's Foreign Minister, Gideon Sa'ar, also condemned the violence, referring to the perpetrators as Israeli rioters. He mentioned that the foreign ministry was in contact with the ambassadors of the affected countries. However, Sa'ar noted that the visit had not been coordinated with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in advance, suggesting that such coordination could have helped ensure the visitors' security.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) issued a statement strongly condemning the "severe act of violence." A preliminary IDF inquiry indicated that no IDF soldiers were present at the scene during the attack. The IDF also stated they were investigating the incident.

However, the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urged caution in drawing conclusions, suggesting that social media images did not provide a complete sequence of events or establish individual responsibility. The Prime Minister's office stated that the circumstances remained under investigation.

This attack follows a separate incident the previous day where settlers reportedly injured Palestinians and a photographer from The Washington Post in another West Bank village. The incident highlights ongoing tensions and concerns over settler violence in the occupied Palestinian territories.
