Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, a prominent right-wing candidate in Brazil’s upcoming presidential election, is now facing a corruption investigation. The probe, initiated in July by Supreme Court Justice Andre Mendonca at the request of federal police, came to light as Brazil’s Supreme Court unsealed court documents related to a wide-reaching corruption scandal.

The investigation centers on allegations of corruption, money laundering, and tax evasion involving Daniel Vorcaro, the former head of the failed lender Banco Master. Vorcaro, arrested in March, is accused of orchestrating a massive fraud estimated to have defrauded approximately 800,000 bank clients, with the total value of the fraud reportedly reaching $2.3 billion.

According to federal police data extracted from Vorcaro’s cellphone, about $12 million was transferred in 2025 to a U.S.-based fund associated with Eduardo Bolsonaro, Flavio Bolsonaro's brother. These funds were allegedly intended for the production of the 2026 film "Dark Horse," a movie that reportedly portrays their father, former President Jair Bolsonaro, in a favorable light. Court documents also suggest that Eduardo Bolsonaro, a former legislator, provided advice to Vorcaro on managing these U.S.-based funds. Eduardo Bolsonaro has publicly denied any wrongdoing, stating that the transfers were not bribe money but were intended to shield the funds from interference by Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes. He claims the transfers were meant to prevent interference from Justice de Moraes, who had previously overseen cases involving Jair Bolsonaro and Eduardo Bolsonaro himself.

The allegations of a connection between Flavio Bolsonaro and Vorcaro first surfaced in May following leaked messages published by the outlet Intercept Brasil. Flavio Bolsonaro has maintained his innocence, asserting that he was merely seeking private investment for his father’s film project. He is currently challenging incumbent Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in the presidential election scheduled for October 4.
