Four women have accused Oscar-winning actor and Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman Jared Leto of criminal sexual conduct, with the alleged offenses occurring when they were teenagers.

The accusations come to light in a BBC News report, which details allegations ranging from sexual assault to grooming and statutory rape. The women claim these encounters took place between 2002 and 2016, a period when Leto was in his 30s and 40s. He is now 54.

One accuser stated she was sexually assaulted in a motel bathroom at age 17. Another reported being threatened with sexual assault at 19 after being left alone with Leto in a hotel room. A third described engaging in underage sex in California at 17, an act she says Leto dismissed when she raised concerns about the age of consent.

The fourth woman alleges she was groomed by Leto, who she claims abused his celebrity status through repeated, sexually explicit phone calls when she was 16. She also stated she was sent a non-disclosure agreement, which she refused to sign. Four additional women reported receiving "strange and often very sexual" phone calls from Leto during their youth.

In a separate incident, a woman recounted that when she was 14, Leto allegedly instructed a security guard to take her backstage at a music festival after making a lewd comment about her chest during an autograph signing. Her mother reportedly confronted Leto, who allegedly repeated the comment.

In total, 10 women spoke to the BBC for a documentary titled "Jared Leto: Hollywood's Dark Secret." Nine of these women have shared their stories publicly for the first time. The BBC has corroborated several accounts with friends and family members who were informed of the encounters at the time, and in some cases, has reviewed supporting messages and pictures.

Two former employees of Leto's band also expressed discomfort to the documentary makers regarding Leto's interactions with teenage girls, including inviting them backstage and to his recording house. They noted the significant age gap as a point of concern.

Despite repeated attempts by the BBC to contact Jared Leto, he has not responded to the allegations put to him. Leto, known for his roles in films like "Dallas Buyers Club" and "Blade Runner 2049," is also the frontman for the band Thirty Seconds to Mars.
