An average of one Palestinian has been killed or wounded every 90 minutes in Gaza since a ceasefire was announced last October, according to a new report by the UK-based aid group Islamic Relief. The organization stated that since the ceasefire, at least 1,454 Palestinians have been killed and over 5,000 wounded.

The figures highlight the ongoing deadly impact of Israeli attacks on the besieged Palestinian territory, even after a period intended to bring a halt to hostilities. The report also notes that children have been significantly affected, with at least 320 children among those killed, averaging close to one child fatality per day.

Data from Gaza's Health Ministry aligns with these figures, reporting 1,471 Palestinians killed and 5,189 wounded since the ceasefire. The ministry also stated that Israel has killed at least 74,254 people in Gaza since October 2023. Recent incidents include an Israeli killing of a Palestinian southeast of Deir el-Balah and an Israeli air strike in central Khan Younis that wounded several people.

Islamic Relief also pointed to the continued displacement of Palestinians within Gaza, stating that Israel has used the "Yellow Line" demarcation to push people out of 65 percent of the territory. This has concentrated nearly 2.1 million people into the remaining 35 percent, exacerbating humanitarian conditions.

An aid worker with Islamic Relief in Gaza, whose identity was withheld for safety, described the reality on the ground as far from a ceasefire. The worker noted that displacement camps and crowded areas continue to be targeted, fostering widespread fear among the population. The group also reported that Israel continues to restrict the entry of essential materials, including shelter supplies, fuel, and medical equipment.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza is dire, with approximately 82 percent of structures damaged or destroyed. More than half of the health services have ceased operations, and over 20,000 severely ill patients are reportedly denied permission to leave Gaza for necessary medical treatment abroad.

Islamic Relief has issued an urgent call for international action, urging world leaders to increase pressure on Israel to protect civilians and adhere to international law. The charity emphasized that a "ceasefire in name only" should not be used as a justification for international inaction in the face of continued violence and suffering.

The ongoing conflict and its devastating consequences underscore the urgent need for a lasting resolution and robust international oversight to ensure the safety and well-being of the Palestinian population in Gaza.
