U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Officer Curtland Sawyer is being hailed as a hero after he pulled a driver from a burning vehicle following a tractor-trailer crash on Interstate 70 in Missouri.

The incident occurred on Tuesday morning near Kingdom City, Missouri, when a tractor-trailer collided with a passenger vehicle. The collision caused the passenger vehicle to become trapped beneath the trailer and erupt in flames.

Officer Sawyer, who was traveling in the area, witnessed the crash and immediately stopped to render aid. He found the driver of the passenger vehicle still inside the vehicle, which was rapidly filling with smoke and fire. Despite the extreme danger, Sawyer entered the burning vehicle, unbuckled the driver, and pulled them to safety just moments before the vehicle was fully engulfed.

First responders, including the Callaway County Fire Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol, arrived on the scene shortly after the rescue. They were able to extinguish the blaze and provide medical attention to the rescued driver, whose condition was not immediately released. The driver of the tractor-trailer sustained minor injuries.

Officials from the Missouri State Highway Patrol commended Officer Sawyer for his quick thinking and bravery. They emphasized the critical nature of his intervention, noting that the situation could have had a far more tragic outcome without his decisive actions.

ICE leadership also acknowledged Officer Sawyer's heroic deed, stating that his actions exemplify the dedication and courage demonstrated by ICE officers in their communities. The cause of the collision is currently under investigation by the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Traffic on Interstate 70 was significantly impacted for several hours as emergency crews worked to clear the scene.
