Even the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha, observed last week, failed to halt a continuous series of Israeli attacks, demolitions, and incursions across occupied Palestine. Between May 27 and May 30, at least 33 Palestinians were killed and over 130 wounded, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health, despite a ceasefire in the enclave.

Among those killed was Ahmad Ali Helles, 37, reportedly the only surviving member of his immediate family, who died in a drone strike in Gaza City. Dr. Jamal Abu Aoun, head of anesthesia at Yafa Hospital, was also killed by Israeli forces near Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir el-Balah. In the occupied West Bank, settlers torched a Palestinian home and car near Jenin, spray-painting "Mazel tov" on the walls. Israeli soldiers also used tear gas on families visiting graves in Jenin and removed a woman's headscarf at Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa Mosque.

These events coincide with Israel's increasing international isolation. On May 28, several Israeli entities were added to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres's annual blacklist of parties suspected of sexual violence in conflict, a list that also includes Hamas. The UN report documented cases attributed to the Israeli military, the Israel Prison Service, and special police units affecting men, women, and children from Gaza and the West Bank.

The Sde Teiman military camp and other detention facilities were cited for abuse. Israel reacted to the report by severing ties with Guterres. The UN findings emerge amid global condemnation of the recent Global Sumud Flotilla incident, where Israeli forces violently detained activists attempting to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza.

France has requested a criminal investigation into the treatment of its citizens detained from the flotilla. The European Union also imposed sanctions on four entities and three individuals identified as extremist settlers, including Daniella Weiss, director of Nachala, and the settler movement Regavim.

The violence and demolitions continued through the holiday, underscoring the lack of respite for Palestinians. The report from the UN Secretary-General highlights credible suspicions of patterns of rape and conflict-related sexual violence, with UN-verified cases documented for the year 2025.

These allegations have intensified international scrutiny on Israel's actions in the occupied territories. The inclusion of Israeli military and prison service entities on the UN blacklist marks a significant diplomatic development amid deepening concerns over human rights violations.

Questions remain regarding the full scope of the alleged abuses and the accountability mechanisms to be employed. The ongoing conflict and the seizure of Gaza continue to fuel international outrage and calls for justice.
