One person was killed and five others were injured in a shooting attack in central Israel on Sunday, with police stating they subsequently killed two suspects allegedly involved.

Israeli rescue service Magen David Adom reported that a 35-year-old man died from gunshot wounds. Of the five individuals wounded, two are in serious condition and have been transported to nearby hospitals. The incident occurred in the Kochav Yair area, close to the occupied West Bank city of Qalqilya.

Israeli police confirmed that their forces intervened following reports of shooting directed at passersby at a gas station. The initial attacker, identified by police as a Palestinian with Israeli citizenship from the city of Tayibe, was killed by security forces. During subsequent searches for additional suspects, police reported killing a second individual.

The weapon used in the attack has been recovered. Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. The Israeli Broadcasting Authority indicated the attack spanned multiple locations, beginning in Kochav Yair and extending to the entrances of the nearby towns of Tzur Yitzhak and Tzur Natan.

Hamas issued a statement commending the attack as a "heroic" operation, though it did not claim responsibility. The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that a situational assessment was underway regarding the shooting.

Lior Zilberberg of Magen David Adom described the emergency response, noting that medical teams were diverted from a nearby training exercise to attend to casualties at multiple scenes. He recounted finding one victim in a vehicle who was unresponsive and pronounced dead after medical assessment.

Raids are reportedly being conducted in Tayibe by the Israeli internal security agency and police, with security cordons imposed on several neighboring Arab villages. The full extent of the operation and the identities of all involved remain under investigation.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack and the backgrounds of the alleged perpetrators. The incident has heightened security concerns in the region, with ongoing efforts to ensure public safety and apprehend any further individuals connected to the violence.
