This summit follows closely on the heels of a two-day meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump in Beijing.

The summit between Xi and Trump, a follow-up to their October talks in South Korea, featured cordial exchanges and ceremonial events but yielded limited concrete agreements on contentious issues such as trade, artificial intelligence, Taiwan, and the U.S.-Israel conflict in Iran.

Analysts suggest that the Putin-Xi summit will likely serve as an opportunity for the two leaders to further solidify their alignment in challenging the United States's global dominance.
