Russell Brand has been convicted of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault by a jury at Southwark Crown Court in London. The verdicts were delivered on November 5, 2026, following a four-week trial. Brand was taken into custody immediately after the verdicts and denied bail, with sentencing scheduled for Monday.

The jury found the entertainer guilty of raping a fan after meeting her at a 2009 stand-up performance. He was also convicted of groping an MTV worker at a 2004 party, kissing and groping a radio worker in 2004 or 2005, and sexually assaulting a Channel 4 worker in 2009.

Brand was acquitted of two other rape counts and one count of attempted indecent assault. The jury deliberated for eight-and-a-half hours before reaching their decision. During the trial, Brand faced allegations from six women spanning the decade between 1999 and 2009, a period when he achieved significant fame.

The accusers stated that Brand used his influence to coerce them into sexual activity. The judge, Mr Justice Bennathan, informed Brand that he should anticipate a significant custodial sentence. Brand showed little outward emotion upon hearing the verdicts, mouthing "I'm good" to his defense counsel.

It has also been reported that Brand is facing further rape allegations from two additional women, and police have questioned him in relation to these complaints. The Metropolitan Police confirmed their investigation is ongoing. Brand had previously claimed to be the victim of a media conspiracy and asserted in court that consent was paramount.

Brand's defense had argued that consent was more important than sex itself, and the entertainer had also referenced his own writings from a 2007 book where he described sex as a "birthright." However, the jury considered the evidence presented by the six women who accused him of sexual offenses.

Brand rose to prominence as a high-profile entertainer in the UK and internationally. His career included stand-up comedy, acting roles, and television presenting. The trial has drawn significant public attention due to Brand's celebrity status.

Following the verdicts, Brand was taken into custody, and his wife, Laura Gallacher, was seen leaving the court shortly afterward. The sentencing is expected to provide further details on the duration of his prison term.
