A Russian oligarch with reported ties to President Vladimir Putin allegedly contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars for events surrounding Donald Trump Jr.'s wedding to Bettina Anderson earlier this year, according to a report from ProPublica.

The report, published Monday, states that the oligarch, identified as Umar Kremlev, funded a significant portion of the expenses for events held the weekend after Trump Jr. and Anderson's May wedding. The couple's wedding ceremony itself took place on an island in the Bahamas.

According to ProPublica's review of records and interviews with three individuals familiar with the event, Kremlev covered costs that included renting a private island and a firework show. Payments for these expenses reportedly originated from an entity associated with the International Boxing Association, where Kremlev serves as president.

In response to inquiries about the report, a spokesperson for Donald Trump Jr. and the White House directed ABC News to a recent Instagram post by Bettina Anderson. In her post, Anderson acknowledged Kremlev's contributions, describing them as a "generous wedding gift from a friend" and expressing gratitude. She did not dispute that Kremlev paid for parts of the post-wedding celebrations.

Anderson's statement also addressed potential interpretations of the events, stating, "It’s unfortunate that something so personal and happy can be recast as something political or sinister simply because of who someone is or where they come from." She emphasized that the wedding ceremony was attended "ONLY" by family and that there was "NO CONSPIRACY, NO MYSTERY."

ProPublica reported that a spokesperson for Donald Trump Jr. also did not dispute the payments from Kremlev when questioned by the outlet, stating that Kremlev is a "personal friend of Don."

It remains unclear why Kremlev chose to finance these specific wedding weekend events. ProPublica noted that Kremlev had recently traveled to China as part of a delegation accompanying President Putin, who had also recently awarded him the state honor of the Order of Friendship.

ABC News has not independently verified the details presented in the ProPublica report. The report raises questions about the financial arrangements and potential implications of such a significant contribution from an individual with alleged ties to the Russian government.
