A seven-year-old boy, Musa Ahmed, has died in hospital following a beach tragedy that claimed the lives of a mother and daughter. Musa had been on a family day trip to West Mersea, Essex, on July 22 when he and five relatives got into difficulty in the water.

While Musa was pulled from the sea and airlifted to the Royal London Hospital, Shelina Rahman, 41, and her 15-year-old daughter, Sameeha, were pronounced dead at the scene. The group had travelled from Ilford in east London for the outing.

Musa's family confirmed his death, stating he passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening. They expressed gratitude for the care provided by the hospital's intensive care unit and thanked the community for their support and prayers. Musa's father, Shahin Ahmed, described the incident as being swept away by a very strong tide.

Three other relatives who were in the water were taken to hospital by ambulance and are reported to be recovering. The incident was first reported to Essex Police at 17:35 BST on July 22. Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

Detective Chief Inspector Al Pitcher, leading the investigation, conveyed his thoughts to the family and friends of those involved, describing their bravery and strength as humbling. His team is interviewing witnesses to establish a clearer picture of how the events unfolded.

The incident highlights the potential dangers of coastal waters, particularly the strong tidal currents that can be present. West Mersea is known for its tidal conditions, which can change rapidly and pose risks to swimmers.
