Tottenham Hotspur has completed the signing of Egypt forward Omar Marmoush from Manchester City on a season-long loan, the Premier League club announced on Thursday. The deal includes an obligation to make the transfer permanent at the end of the current season, with British media reporting the guaranteed fee to be 50 million pounds ($68 million), plus an additional 10 million pounds in add-ons.

Marmoush, 27, expressed his excitement about joining Spurs, stating, "It feels amazing to be here. I’m so excited to get started with the team, and I can’t wait to meet the fans." He was attracted to Tottenham's project and had a positive conversation with head coach Roberto De Zerbi, believing their "passion for the game will go very well together."

The Egyptian international had a mixed tenure at Manchester City. After an impressive debut 2024-25 campaign, he struggled for consistent playing time last season, scoring only three goals in 21 Premier League appearances. This contrasts with his seven goals in his first half-season at the Etihad Stadium. Marmoush is a versatile attacker, capable of playing as a central striker or on the left wing, and is expected to find more opportunities under De Zerbi.

De Zerbi, who took over Tottenham in March and guided them to safety from relegation, has been actively seeking to strengthen his forward line. The club has already invested heavily in new talent, signing midfielders Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, along with defender Jan Paul van Hecke, for a combined 237 million pounds ($322 million). Additionally, Tottenham recently acquired Brazilian winger Savio from Manchester City for a reported 75 million pounds ($102 million) plus add-ons.

Tottenham's need for attacking reinforcements has been evident after two challenging seasons where they narrowly avoided relegation, finishing 17th in the Premier League in both. Marmoush represented Egypt in the 2026 World Cup, featuring in five matches as his nation reached the last 16 before being eliminated by the eventual runners-up, Argentina. His international experience is seen as a valuable addition to the squad.

The club's start to the current Premier League season has been difficult, including a 3-0 defeat against Brentford in their opening match. Their next fixture is a home game against Newcastle United on Saturday, where Marmoush could potentially make his debut.

The significant transfer fee underscores Tottenham's ambition under De Zerbi to rebuild the squad and compete at a higher level. The successful integration of new signings like Marmoush and Savio will be crucial for the team's performance in the upcoming campaigns.

Questions remain about how De Zerbi will integrate Marmoush into his tactical setup and whether the forward can recapture the form he showed in his initial spell at Manchester City. The club's heavy spending suggests a strong belief in their new direction and a commitment to challenging established top teams.
