United States President Donald Trump announced on the 81st day of the ongoing war with Iran that he had postponed a planned military attack on Tehran. The decision came after requests from the leaders of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, and Trump indicated that "serious negotiations are now taking place" behind the scenes.

The postponement suggests a potential de-escalation in the weeks-long conflict, which has seen escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran. The development also coincides with renewed diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the crisis.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian affirmed Tehran's engagement in talks but rejected any notion of capitulation. He stated that dialogue does not signify surrender and that Iran is participating in negotiations while upholding "dignity, authority, and the preservation of the nation’s rights."

Despite the diplomatic maneuvering, Israeli military actions in Lebanon have continued unabated. The death toll in Lebanon has surpassed 3,000, with at least seven individuals reported killed on Monday. This occurs even as a US-brokered extension of a "ceasefire" was reportedly in place.

Within Iran, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reported that its forces had targeted groups linked to the US and Israel in the western province of Kurdistan. According to a statement carried by the ISNA news agency, these groups were allegedly attempting to smuggle a large shipment of American weapons and ammunition into Iran from northern Iraq.

Furthermore, the IRGC indicated potential new controls over the Strait of Hormuz, suggesting that fiber-optic cables passing through the waterway could be subjected to a permit system. This move signals Iran's intention to tighten its control over this critical maritime chokepoint.

Iranian officials have issued strong warnings against further aggression. Mohsen Rezaei, a member of Iran’s Expediency Discernment Council, mocked Trump's shifting deadlines for an attack and asserted that Iran would not yield to pressure. Major-General Ali Abdollahi, commander of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, cautioned the US and its allies against "strategic mistakes," stating that any renewed aggression would be met with a response significantly more powerful than previous confrontations.

Pakistan has reportedly been playing a significant role in facilitating indirect negotiations between Washington and Tehran, highlighting the complex diplomatic landscape surrounding the conflict.
