The United Arab Emirates has imposed an indefinite trade embargo on Iran, halting all trade, commercial exchanges, and financial transactions, following accusations that Iranian forces launched two ballistic missiles at the UAE. The decision was announced Wednesday in a statement from the UAE's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, citing "escalations that undermine peace and security in the region."

This move escalates regional tensions amid an ongoing conflict involving the United States and Israel against Iran. The UAE's Ministry of Defence reported that its air defences detected the missile launches, with one missile falling within the UAE's territorial waters and another outside. The ministry stated the missiles were "targeting maritime traffic" and vowed to "resolutely confront any attempt to undermine the security of the nation or maritime navigation."

Iran has vehemently denied the accusations, with its Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei dismissing the claims as "baseless" and suggesting the incident could be a "false flag operation." Baghaei cautioned against unfounded claims and highlighted the "malicious actions" of the US and Israel.

The alleged missile strike marks the first such attack on the UAE since May and follows recent accusations by Abu Dhabi that Tehran was responsible for attacks on two state-owned ADNOC vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has not claimed responsibility for those incidents.

This trade embargo occurs as the United States maintains a naval blockade on Iranian ports. The US has been signaling a shift towards economic pressure to compel Iran to accept its demands, rather than relying solely on military pressure.

In the initial six weeks of the broader conflict, Iran reportedly targeted the UAE with retaliatory strikes more than any other Gulf country. These strikes included over 530 ballistic missiles, dozens of cruise missiles, and more than 2,200 drones, which Iran described as targeting US assets.

The expiration of a 60-day window for US-Iranian peace talks without a breakthrough preceded Tuesday's alleged attack, further complicating diplomatic efforts.

The situation remains tense, with the UAE taking a firm stance against what it perceives as threats to its security and regional stability, while Iran continues to deny involvement and points to actions by the US and Israel.
