Ukrainian officials announced Saturday that Starlink and Starshield satellite internet speeds have been fully restored, ending a weeklong disruption that officials stated hampered military defense capabilities. The Ukrainian Defense Ministry reported that its monitoring systems have officially recorded the complete restoration of Starlink-Starshield performance, with stable connections maintained even at high speeds.

This restoration is a critical development for Ukraine's defense efforts, as the satellite internet system is vital for communication, drone operations, and logistics, particularly near the front lines. The disruptions had raised significant concerns about Ukraine's ability to maintain its military operations effectively against ongoing Russian attacks.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had previously appealed to U.S. officials, including President Donald Trump, to help resolve the issue. Following discussions with U.S. authorities, Zelenskyy indicated on Tuesday that the early warning system had resumed functioning, though it took time for speeds to return to their previous levels.

"This is another example of how direct dialogue and the firm position of the President of Ukraine at the highest level can deliver results. And this result is especially important for the front line, for our troops, drone operations, logistics and communications," stated Ukrainian Defense Minister Yevhen Khmara. He added that the imposed speed limits had endangered Ukrainians by inhibiting the military's offensive and defensive capabilities in Russian-occupied territories.

The U.S. administration, however, denied issuing any orders to slow down the Starshield and Starlink networks. Administration officials attributed the changes to Elon Musk's SpaceX, the company operating the satellite systems. President Trump, when questioned by reporters on October 16, stated, "I didn't do that. No, we didn't do that at all," suggesting the infrastructure was likely functional.

In a post on the social media platform X last week, Musk clarified the relationship between the U.S. government and Starlink's Starshield program, noting that Starshield systems are owned and controlled by the U.S. military. He indicated that any limitations on speed or usage are determined by the U.S. military.

The disruption came amid a period of intensified Russian assaults, including a recent deadly attack on an apartment building in Zaporizhzhia that resulted in 20 fatalities. The restoration of Starlink's full functionality is expected to bolster Ukraine's resilience and operational capacity during these challenging times.

While the system is now reportedly fully operational, the precise reasons for the weeklong slowdown and the extent of its impact on specific military operations remain points of interest as Ukraine continues its defense.
