Ukrainian drone attacks targeting warehouses in western Russia on Saturday resulted in at least eight civilian deaths and dozens of injuries, according to Russian officials. The strikes, which hit facilities belonging to Russia's largest online retailer, Wildberries, are among the deadliest Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory in recent years.

Tambov Governor Evgeniy Pervyshov reported that seven night-shift employees were killed and 25 others wounded when drones struck a Wildberries logistics center in Kotovsk. He stated that 28 drones were intercepted, suggesting the potential for higher casualties if more had reached their targets.

In the Moscow region, a separate drone attack in Elektrostal hit another Wildberries warehouse, causing at least one death and injuring 37 people, some seriously. Another drone strike ignited a fire at an oil depot in Noginsk, wounding two individuals.

These attacks come as Ukraine intensifies its efforts to disrupt Russia's military supply chain. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the targeted Wildberries warehouses were "significant logistics facilities" involved in supplying components for drone production and navigation equipment. He also noted successful Ukrainian medium-range strikes in the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea.

The increased intensity of Ukrainian strikes on Russian soil underscores a potential shift in the conflict's dynamics, as Kyiv seeks to degrade Moscow's capacity to wage war. The attacks aim to impact Russia's ability to produce and deploy weaponry by targeting key logistical and manufacturing hubs.

Simultaneously, Russia continued its own offensive operations. A "massive" Russian attack on Odesa's port infrastructure in Ukraine resulted in at least one death, three injuries, and damage to facilities. Russia also reportedly attacked a vessel flying the flag of Antigua and Barbuda.

The latest exchange of hostilities occurs against a backdrop of political developments in Ukraine. President Zelenskyy recently dismissed Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, who had been instrumental in the rapid expansion of Ukraine's drone industry.

The high casualty figures from the Russian warehouse strikes represent a significant escalation in civilian impact within Russia, raising questions about the effectiveness of Russian air defenses and the expanding reach of Ukrainian drone capabilities.
