President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced Saturday that Ukrainian intelligence, corroborated by American and European partners, suggests Russia may be preparing to deploy the Oreshnik hypersonic ballistic missile system. The Ukrainian leader stated that his nation is working to verify this information and is bolstering its air defenses in anticipation of potential strikes.

This warning comes as tensions remain high between Ukraine and Russia, with both sides reporting military actions and alleged attacks. The potential use of a hypersonic missile would represent a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict, given the advanced capabilities and speed of such weaponry.

The U.S. Embassy in Kyiv issued a security alert on Saturday, informing U.S. citizens of a "potentially significant" air attack threat on Ukraine within the next 24 hours. The embassy advised all citizens to be prepared to seek shelter immediately if an air alert is sounded, underscoring the gravity of the intelligence.

In response to the intelligence, President Zelenskyy vowed that Ukraine would "respond fully justly to every Russian strike." He also confirmed that efforts are underway to enhance Ukraine's air defense capabilities to counter the perceived threat.

Earlier on Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin alleged that Ukrainian drone strikes on a college dormitory in Starobilsk, in the Luhansk People's Republic, resulted in casualties. Putin stated he had requested proposals from the Russian military on how to respond to such actions, indicating a desire for a retaliatory measure.

However, Ukraine's military denied responsibility for the dormitory attack, claiming instead to have struck a headquarters of a Russian military drone unit named Rubicon. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine asserted that Rubicon targets Ukrainian civilians and accused Russian media of disseminating misinformation, stating that Kyiv adheres to international humanitarian law and targets only military infrastructure.
