The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched strikes on what it described as three Hezbollah command centers in southern Lebanon early Monday, stating the attacks were a response to ongoing ceasefire violations.

The military action comes amidst escalating tensions and a backdrop of potential peace negotiations between the United States and Iran. The fighting in southern Lebanon, a region where Israel maintains a security zone, has posed a significant challenge to broader diplomatic efforts.

An IDF spokesperson, Avichay Adraee, indicated on social media that the strikes were a direct reaction to Hezbollah's continued targeting of Israeli forces operating within the security zone. The IDF also reported striking and dismantling a launcher used by Hezbollah to attack Israeli troops.

These developments occur as a U.S. official confirmed that the United States and Iran have agreed to halt their respective aerial strikes over the Strait of Hormuz. This agreement aims to ensure the free passage of tankers through the critical waterway, following a series of retaliatory attacks over the weekend that originated from an Iranian assault on a vessel in the strait.

The conflict in Lebanon has threatened to derail negotiations between Washington and Tehran, which have been focused on a potential war-ending deal. The U.S. had previously announced a framework for future talks between Israel and Lebanon, intended to de-escalate the fighting, but Hezbollah publicly rejected this proposal on Saturday, asserting its commitment to continued resistance and retaining its weaponry.

Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, have previously stated their intention to maintain an Israeli presence within the security zone in southern Lebanon. The IDF's overnight strikes targeted alleged Hezbollah command centers in Nabatieh and Mayfadoun.

Separately, President Donald Trump announced that a meeting with Iran, requested by Tehran, is scheduled to take place in Doha, Qatar, on Tuesday. The participants of this meeting were not specified in the president's social media post.

The ongoing exchange of strikes in southern Lebanon and the agreement to cease hostilities in the Strait of Hormuz highlight the complex and volatile geopolitical landscape involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.
