Nigerian security forces have rescued more than 300 abducted individuals in what President Bola Ahmed Tinubu described as the largest single-day hostage recovery in the nation’s history. The announcement followed a joint operation involving the military, police, and counter-terrorism units.

The operation successfully freed victims held captive in the dense forests of the Kainji Lake national park, located in the north-central region of Nigeria. This rescue marks a significant achievement in the ongoing efforts to combat widespread insecurity and banditry in the country.

Among the freed hostages were 163 individuals who had been kidnapped in February during a violent raid on the village of Woro in Kwara state. An additional 145 people, primarily seized from the neighboring Niger state, also regained their freedom. Officials confirmed that all survivors are currently undergoing medical evaluations at an army facility. They will be reunited with their families once cleared.
