At least five people were killed and five others injured in a Russian attack on the city of Kamianske in Ukraine's Dnipropetrovsk region on Saturday morning. The strike occurred just hours before Ukrainian armed forces were reportedly ordered to observe a three-day ceasefire, coinciding with a visit by United States special envoys to Moscow and Kyiv.

Governor Oleksandr Hanzha confirmed the casualties in Kamianske, a city in southeastern Ukraine. The attack targeted a civilian enterprise, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This incident highlights the ongoing violence despite diplomatic efforts underway.

United States special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are traveling to Moscow on Saturday and Kyiv on Sunday with a proposal aimed at ending the protracted conflict. Their visit signifies a renewed push for de-escalation and peace negotiations between the warring nations.

President Zelenskyy suggested that demonstrative Russian strikes on airports in Kyiv and Boryspil overnight were a direct reaction to the preparations for the US envoys' travel. He stated that Ukraine would adjust its operations regarding Russian airspace in response to these actions.

Ukrainian media outlet Ukrainska Pravda reported that the ceasefire order for Ukrainian forces was scheduled to begin at midnight on September 5 and last until September 8. A member of the Ukrainian parliament, Oleksiy Honcharenko, confirmed on Telegram that a ceasefire order had been received and was in effect across land, air, and sea.

However, the Ukrainian Armed Forces clarified that they had not initiated this temporary ceasefire on the front lines, as Russian aggression had not ceased. The order for Ukrainian forces to observe a ceasefire appears to have been superseded by continued Russian attacks.

Separately, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported that a local ceasefire had been brokered to allow for repairs to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. The Russian-controlled facility has been without external power since August 20 and has been operating on emergency diesel generators to maintain critical safety systems.

Reports also indicated injuries from other Russian strikes across Ukraine, underscoring the volatile security situation on the ground. The effectiveness of any ceasefire, especially in light of continued attacks, remains a critical concern.
