Six people were killed and 19 wounded in southeastern Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia region during a "massive" overnight Russian attack involving missiles and aerial bombs, local officials announced Tuesday.

Ivan Fedorov, head of the military administration in Zaporizhzhia, reported the casualties and shared images of damaged buildings and vehicles engulfed in flames. The attack also resulted in power outages across the region.

In the capital, Kyiv, a ballistic missile strike damaged property and injured one person. Ukraine's state emergency service confirmed that a children's hospital in the Shevchenkivskyi district was among the sites hit, also causing a fire at a warehouse.

These strikes come as Russia has intensified its use of long-range missiles against Ukrainian cities, a campaign that Ukrainian officials say aims to strain the country's air defense systems, particularly amid a shortage of Patriot interceptors.

Russia's Ministry of Defence stated that its overnight operations targeted defense industry facilities and transport hubs in both Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia. The ministry did not acknowledge civilian casualties in its statement.

Meanwhile, in Russia's Voronezh region, an overnight Ukrainian drone attack resulted in one fatality and two injuries. Regional governor Alexandr Gusev reported that falling debris from the destroyed drones also sparked fires at warehouse facilities. Russian air defense units reportedly intercepted 15 drones over Voronezh city and five surrounding districts.

Russian online retailer Wildberries confirmed that its logistics facilities in Voronezh had been evacuated, though it did not specify the extent of the damage. This incident follows a pattern of Ukrainian drone attacks targeting Russian territory.

Ukraine has recently escalated its strikes deep inside Russian territory, with Russia responding by stepping up its own long-range missile attacks on Ukrainian cities, indicating a potential new phase in the protracted conflict.
