Russian activist Adele Shoko reported that Israeli settlers assaulted her and two colleagues, U.S. journalist Jasper Nathaniel and Israeli-Russian activist Andrey X, in the Palestinian village of Umm al-Khair, Masafer Yatta, in the occupied West Bank. The incident, which occurred recently, involved armed settlers who allegedly beat the activists, threatened them, and stole equipment and personal belongings.

Shoko stated on social media platform X that both she and Nathaniel were beaten, with Nathaniel subsequently pepper-sprayed and arrested by Israeli forces. Andrey X reportedly suffered a severe concussion, losing consciousness multiple times during the assault in front of police officers. Despite his condition, Shoko claimed Andrey X was denied medical treatment and was taken to a police station instead of a hospital, where he remained under arrest.

Video footage shared by Shoko online appears to show several men, some armed, attacking Nathaniel and Andrey X. Additional footage depicts Israeli authorities leading Nathaniel away while he stated he had just been assaulted. The incident highlights ongoing tensions and alleged violence in the occupied West Bank.

This alleged attack follows a similar incident on October 16, where masked Israeli settlers reportedly attacked Palestinian farmers during olive harvesting in Abu Falah, northeast of Ramallah. During that event, trees were set on fire, and stones were thrown. A photojournalist covering the incident was also reportedly beaten and robbed.

The previous incident involved Washington Post photojournalist Heidi Levine, who was allegedly kicked and beaten by settlers while wearing a press vest. Her passport, phone, and camera equipment were reportedly stolen. During the same event, Israeli soldiers fired live ammunition and tear gas, and a Palestinian man was shot in the leg.

Following the attack on Levine, the Washington Post's Executive Editor Matt Murray condemned the "unwarranted attack on a journalist doing her job." Several U.S. lawmakers subsequently called for investigations into settler violence and for an end to such acts in the region.

The latest accusations of assault against activists and journalists underscore the volatile security situation in the occupied West Bank. The alleged actions by settlers and the subsequent detentions raise concerns about the safety of individuals present in the area, including international observers and journalists.

Questions remain regarding the full extent of the injuries sustained by Andrey X and the specific charges leading to Jasper Nathaniel's arrest. The Israeli authorities have not yet released a detailed statement regarding the incident in Umm al-Khair.
