A man has died following a tiger attack at Yorkshire Wildlife Park, near Doncaster, police have confirmed. The incident occurred shortly before police were called at 13:35 BST on Saturday.

Authorities were alerted after the man was seen entering the park's tiger enclosure. South Yorkshire Police stated that the tiger attacked the man, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The animal was unharmed and remained within its enclosure.

Following the fatality, Yorkshire Wildlife Park was closed and will remain shut for the rest of the weekend. Management confirmed that emergency response procedures were immediately activated and that they are cooperating fully with authorities to determine the exact circumstances of the event.

The attack has prompted swift reactions from local officials. Ed Miliband, MP for Doncaster North, expressed his deep sadness and offered condolences to the deceased's family, also thanking emergency services and park staff for their response. Lee Pitcher, MP for Doncaster East and the Isle of Axholme, echoed these sentiments, expressing gratitude for the emergency services' "speed and professionalism."

Witnesses described hearing what sounded like gunshots, and an air ambulance was seen circling the park. One visitor, Karmelle Pelham, 39, noted a large black tarpaulin was placed over the tiger enclosure. She commended the park staff for their organized handling of the evacuation.

The park's "Land of the Tigers" area, home to endangered Amur tigers, opened in 2011. This purpose-built reserve spans two acres and is designed with visitor walkways and fencing to ensure containment and safety.

South Yorkshire Police have stated that officers are providing support to the man's family during this "distressing time." They also acknowledged the circulation of videos online related to the incident and urged the public not to share such footage.

An investigation into the precise details of how the man entered the enclosure and the subsequent attack is ongoing. The park has committed to working closely with authorities as they ascertain exactly what happened.
