Yorkshire Wildlife Park remains closed following a fatal incident on Saturday where a man climbed into a tiger enclosure and was attacked by an Amur tiger. Emergency services were called to the park near Doncaster, South Yorkshire, at approximately 13:30 BST after reports that a man had descended into the enclosure from a visitor walkway.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The park confirmed that the tiger, named Altai, was unharmed and would not be euthanized. Park officials stated their thoughts are with the man's family, and staff present during the incident will receive specialist support.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing the man, who appeared to be wearing headphones, pacing near the enclosure before entering it. One visitor described seeing the man climb onto the barriers, then jump into the enclosure where the tiger was present. The visitor stated the man shouted for help before the tiger attacked.

South Yorkshire Police are investigating the incident and are supporting the man's family. They have also urged the public not to share videos of the event circulating online. The park activated its emergency response procedures immediately and is cooperating with authorities to determine the sequence of events.

Floral tributes have been left at the park entrance. The park had announced on its website earlier on Saturday that it was working with authorities to understand what happened. Park staff were praised by some visitors for their organized evacuation of the site.

Ella Ford, 24, who visited the park that day, described seeing the man pacing with headphones before he climbed the barriers and entered the enclosure. She witnessed the tiger grab hold of the man and heard him shouting for help. She estimated 15 to 20 people were on the walkway at the time before staff evacuated the area and subsequently the park.

Another visitor, Karmelle Pelham, 39, reported hearing what sounded like gunshots and seeing an air ambulance. She noted a large black tarpaulin was placed over the enclosure. She commended the park staff for their handling of the evacuation, describing it as "very, very well organised."

Ed Miliband, MP for Doncaster North and Foreign Secretary, expressed his sadness about the incident and offered his condolences to the family. The park has stated it will remain closed for the rest of the weekend.
