A man has been seriously injured after a tiger attacked him within its enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park, authorities confirmed.

South Yorkshire Police were called to the popular attraction near Doncaster at approximately 13:35 BST on Saturday following reports of an individual entering the restricted tiger habitat. The park immediately activated its emergency response procedures and is cooperating with police to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.

The park announced it would remain closed for the rest of the weekend following the "serious incident." Visitors were evacuated, and police remained at the scene throughout the afternoon. Authorities have appealed to the public not to share any distressing footage of the attack.

The tiger involved in the incident remained within its enclosure, and police have assured the public there is no wider threat to safety. Yorkshire Ambulance Service dispatched significant resources, including an air ambulance, two land ambulances, and a doctor, to the scene.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park, which opened in 2009, features a "Land of the Tigers" enclosure that was established in 2011. This area is described as a habitat designed to allow the big cats to roam freely, engage in natural behaviors, and utilize water features.

Park management stated that the safety and well-being of visitors, staff, and animals are their paramount concerns. The park houses a variety of other large animals, including lions, leopards, cheetahs, polar bears, brown bears, and sea lions.

Police are in the process of contacting the injured man's family. The exact nature of his injuries has not been disclosed. The investigation into how the man gained access to the enclosure is ongoing.

This incident marks a significant event at the wildlife park, raising questions about security protocols and visitor access to animal enclosures. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
