The death toll from Israeli attacks on Lebanon has surpassed 8,900 since October 2023, with nearly 30,600 people injured, according to Lebanese health authorities. The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health released figures on Saturday indicating that from October 2023 to September 2026, Israeli attacks resulted in 8,920 fatalities and 30,595 injuries.

These figures underscore a period of intense conflict and escalating violence between Israel and Lebanon. The numbers include a significant increase in casualties since March 2, when the conflict saw a notable intensification. Since that date, 4,358 deaths and 12,359 injuries have been recorded.

Further compounding the crisis, a report from the Health Ministry on Wednesday detailed 179 attacks targeting ambulance crews since March 2, leading to the deaths of 135 healthcare workers. This escalation on March 2 followed a Hezbollah rocket attack on northern Israel, which Israel responded to with a strike on Beirut that killed 31 people.

The ongoing violence has also led to widespread displacement. As of August, the United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR) reported that 360,000 people remained displaced due to Israeli actions, with at least 22,000 individuals residing in collective shelters.

The casualty figures emerged amid continued Israeli military activity across southern Lebanon, even after two U.S.-brokered "peace" agreements were signed in June. Israel has maintained a military presence in southern Lebanon since March, establishing what it termed a "buffer" zone. The framework agreement signed on June 26 was conditional on the disarmament of Hezbollah.

Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem has rejected the framework agreement, deeming it "null and void" and insisting that Israel must end its occupation first. The agreement did not explicitly mandate the withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon.

Recent incidents highlight the persistent conflict. On Friday, an Israeli air strike in Kfar Reman, a southern Lebanese town, resulted in three deaths and 23 injuries. The Israeli military stated the operation targeted Hezbollah fighters in tunnels near the strategic Ali al-Taher bridge. Separately, Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported Israeli raids and artillery shelling on seven towns in the Tyre and Nabatieh districts without reported casualties.

Early Sunday, Israeli warplanes conducted bombings in Zawtar al-Sharqiyah, located in southern Lebanon. These attacks continue to contribute to the significant human cost and displacement documented by health authorities and international organizations.
