President Donald Trump announced Friday that his son, Donald Trump Jr., has repaid a Russian oligarch with close ties to Vladimir Putin, who had reportedly funded two nights of parties following Trump Jr.'s wedding.

The President made the statement in the Oval Office when asked about the appropriateness of his son accepting the gift from Umar Kremlev. "Well, it's totally, it's totally allowed. And a lot of people have parties and all, but it's totally allowed," Trump said. He added, "But as I understand it, he paid them back. He didn't want to have that, so I hear he paid them back."

Trump characterized the event as a friend giving his son a wedding party, which he described as common. He indicated that he learned of the repayment after inquiring about the matter when the story first emerged. "No, I heard I heard about that. I actually heard that -- when I heard the story, I asked about it. He said, 'No, I'm paying it back, Dad.' So, and that was a while ago," the President recounted.

Concerns were previously raised by lawmakers and critics after ProPublica first reported on Kremlev's alleged gift. These individuals warned that accepting expensive gifts from foreign adversaries could create significant conflicts of interest and potentially offer leverage over the President's family.

When questioned about Kremlev's connections to the Kremlin, President Trump suggested that his son may not have conducted a thorough background check. ABC News has sought evidence from the White House and The Trump Organization to corroborate the claim that Donald Trump Jr. repaid Kremlev.

Donald Trump Jr.'s wife, Bettina Anderson, previously described Kremlev as having "very generously hosted two incredible nights of celebrations for us AFTER our wedding." She called it an "extraordinary gift from a friend and something for which we are and remain incredibly grateful."

Kremlev's press office informed ProPublica that he and Trump Jr. share a "friendly relationship" and first met several years ago. ABC News has also reached out to Kremlev for comment regarding the President's latest statements.

The Trump Organization and the White House have not yet provided any documentation or evidence to support the assertion that Donald Trump Jr. has reimbursed the Russian oligarch for the wedding festivities.
