Russia launched ballistic missile and drone attacks across Ukraine on Sunday, killing at least six people, including a child in the northern city of Chernihiv. The strikes hit a supermarket, a residential building in Kyiv, and locations in Zaporizhzhia and Kharkiv.

Ukrainian officials stated that Russia deployed seven ballistic missiles and 136 drones overnight, targeting multiple cities. In Chernihiv, a Russian drone struck a supermarket, resulting in two fatalities, including a nine-year-old girl, and injuring 25 others. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack as "deeply cynical."

In Kharkiv, one person was killed and 16 others wounded by a daytime drone attack, which the mayor characterized as "deliberate Russian terror." A glide bomb attack in Zaporizhzhia killed one person and wounded six, according to regional governor Ivan Fedorov. In the capital, Kyiv, a missile strike caused a blaze in a multistorey apartment block, wounding three people.

Simultaneously, Russian officials reported that Moscow-occupied areas also came under fire. Four people were killed in a Ukrainian drone strike on Horlivka. The Russian-installed mayor stated a subsequent drone strike hit an emergency vehicle, injuring medics and residents.

These exchanges follow a pattern of escalating violence. On Saturday, Ukrainian and Russian strikes reportedly killed at least 21 people across both territories, with a holiday camp being hit in one incident. The ongoing conflict, which began with Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022, continues to exact a heavy toll on civilians.

In the eastern Donetsk region, two employees of the national oil and gas company Naftogaz died in a Russian attack while assisting residents affected by a previous strike. The attacks underscore the persistent danger faced by civilians in frontline cities and those involved in humanitarian efforts.

Russian authorities also reported that at least 12 people, including two children, were injured in a Ukrainian drone attack on Belgorod, a Russian city situated near the Ukrainian border. This incident highlights the cross-border nature of the ongoing hostilities.

Ukrainian air force officials provided details on the scale of the overnight aerial assault, indicating a significant number of missiles and drones were deployed. The continued targeting of civilian infrastructure, such as the supermarket in Chernihiv, raises concerns about proportionality and the adherence to international humanitarian law by both sides.
